TOEFL requirements at universities can be quite complicated, and they can exist at many administrative levels. The University of California-Los Angeles, for instance, has an institution-wide TOEFL minimum total score of 87, but several schools and departments have different standards. International applicants to the master of social science degree offering will not be considered unless they receive a TOEFL composite score of 100 or higher. UCLA's Anderson School of Management officially observes the minimum score of 87, but "almost all" accepted students have achieved scores of 100 or better. UCLA School of Law has an even higher TOEFL standard for its international law students, who must score at least 105 on the exam. Calculating target scores is the best way to begin the process of preparing for the TOEFL, and we encourage our students to carefully review all available information on university, school, and department websites.
